pepi1: hi
pepi1: Where i can get rhd_dump ?
adamk_: The source code for it is in the xf86-video-radeonhd driver package.
adamk_: At least in git.
pepi1: thank you, I thought that is in my Fedora xorg-x11-drv-radeonhd package,
adamk_: Well it's possible that your distribution doesn't include it in their packages.
pepi1: And please, Radeon 3470HD is from series R5xx R6xx or R7xx ?
adamk_: R6xx.
pepi1: thank you
Velmont: So. I need a new graphic card for my coworkers new Ubuntu work machine. It'll run 9.04. Fanless and cheap are good traits. Is there a card that'll work nicely with compiz + radeonhd-drivers?
MostAwesomeDude: X1600 or X1900 should be available in fanless and <$100 variants.
Velmont: X? Hm, I can find ATI Radeon HD 4350, are those something totally different?
MostAwesomeDude: Yeah, these are non-HD cards from the r500 family.
MostAwesomeDude: Lemme fine a Newegg link.
Velmont: Hm. I can't find any of the X-cards on the biggest norwegian web shop. -- So all of the HD-series is not as good supported as the X-series? (They keep changing name, I'm rather confused)
MostAwesomeDude: HD cards are from a different family. The 3D for them is still experimental.
MostAwesomeDude: They also don't really come in fanless varieties. They *are* fairly well-priced, though.
MostAwesomeDude: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102073 is an example.
MostAwesomeDude: I'm slightly confused; they used to have fanless X1600, but I guess they're not sold much anymore.
Velmont: Oh, it needs PCI Express also. And I can't buy from newegg on my company. It'll have to be from Norway, or I'll have to go to the people managing the money, and they won't be happy :P
Velmont: Hmm. OK. But if I *don't* turn on Compiz, then, donate some money, wait half a year, maybe it'll have some basic 3D-support?
Velmont: Because it works in 2D with no proprietary stuff?
adamk_: Velmont: compiz does work now on the HD cards.
MostAwesomeDude: The 3D code is there, it's just not in any released versions of Mesa.
adamk_: Velmont: Though it requires downloading and compiling code manually.
MostAwesomeDude: It'll get more solid through the next year.
Velmont: adamk_: Ahh. Hmm. I like to do that privately, -- but not on company computers, too many of them. -- But so it'll just be to wait a bit. OK. That should be fine. They can wait half a year for increased usabillity. :-)
break19: <- got a 4650HD for 50 bucks.. I'm guessing it was a good price. :p
Velmont: OK, bought that HD-card. I love the work you're doing.
Fry-kun: hello
Fry-kun: who do I need to bug about finishing up/closing an EDID quirk bug?
Fry-kun: I'll gladly do it myself if someone tells me what needs to be done :P
yangman: ?
giros: hi guys. i compile 1.3.0 driver and install. edit zorg.conf add "radeonhd". do not work!
yangman: what doesn't work?
giros: driver not found. i have x86_64 system(fedora 11)
yangman: pastebin your Xorg.0.log
giros: http://pastebin.com/m1ceb9e29
giros: this conf.
yangman: the log would be more useful
yangman: although it's good to see a minimal config
giros: rewrite all xorg log. i install rpm with 1.2.5 radeonhd. work. 1.3.0 module not found.if need i relog and reinstall 1.3.0
yangman: by default self-compiled drivers will get installed under /usr/local/... X doesn't look there by default
yangman: you can make X look there (like: http://yangman.ca/xorg.conf) or configure the compile such that it will install under /usr
giros: yangman: thanks. option dri and exa need?
yangman: not with 1.3.0
giros: big thanks.
giros: do no work! http://pastebin.com/m77c972b7
giros: propietary driver fglrx do not work with 2.6.30 kernel. help please.
yangman: your ModulePath is probably wrong
yangman: find the location of the system-installed modules for xorg
yangman: looks like it's not /usr/lib/xorg/modules for you
giros: yangman: i try you config path :)
giros: http://pastebin.com/m27b5e85b
giros: black screen
yangman: X server 1.6 defaults to a black screen. try starting something
yangman: and that log says you're running radeonhd-1.3.0
yangman: ..er, ignore that. that's what you wanted :p
giros: i try. only black screen. system do not reaction for ctrl+alt+delete
yangman: ctrl+alt+del is also disabled by default in 1.6
giros: and backspace?
giros: c+a+b
yangman: sorry, c+a+b is disabled
yangman: by default
yangman: just switch to a different VT and kill it
giros: eh.this situation bad for me. driver do not compatible for may system :(
giros: why 1.2.5 work.1.3.0 do not
yangman: is it actually not working?
giros: yes, i need driver for 3d accel. fglrx not work. black screen. 1.2.5 do not support 3d accel. 1.3.0 do not work. bad
yangman: 1.3.0 won't give you 3D either
yangman: 3D is handled by mesa, and r6xx support in mesa is still experimental
giros: :'(
giros: 1.3.0 do not have 3d?why create driver without 3d
giros: sorry for bad english. i ru
agd5f: giros: different drivers handle different things
giros: i think. fglrx fine work with 2.6.29-2 kernel.
giros: thanks.try reinstall fglrx. this driver i think. radeonhd do not for me. i need GL 3.0+ support.
