Nightwulf|work: hi all
udovdh: any updates?
estefan: hi
estefan: I was wondering if the current radeonhd release supports the framebuffer_object opengl extension, someone can tell me?
estefan: I mean with hw acceleration
agd5f: estefan: that's part of mesa
agd5f: any only possible with kms right now
agd5f: s/any/and/
estefan: so no hw acceleration without kms?
agd5f: estefan: fbos are only supported with kms
agd5f: and right now only on r1xx-r5xx hw
estefan: ok thanks agd5f
estefan: I am not well informed about the kms, could point me a way to support it?
estefan: I am working on Ubuntu 9.04 and my current card is a radeon mobility X1600, so I should support it, I think
agd5f: estefan: http://jglisse.livejournal.com/1822.html
estefan: thanks for your help agd5f I will take a look at it
estefan: ok that looks very hazardous to me without a decent knowledge of this stuff, I think I will patiently wait for its support in the radeon driver
estefan: There is something I do not understand, on Ubuntu 9.04 the kms should be integrated to the linux kernel that comes with it, so it should be pretty straighforward to support fbos if it is only about kms
yangman: estefan: we don't have stable enough kms for radeon in general right now
yangman: estefan: the KMS in kernel is for intel
estefan: intel graphic chipsets?
yangman: yes
estefan: hem, so what is it necessary for ati hardware?
yangman: implementing it
yangman: plan is to have it merged for 2.6.31
MostAwesomeDude: estefan: http://jglisse.livejournal.com/1822.html for radeon.
agd5f: estefan: kms for amd chips is targeted for 2.6.31
estefan: ok, any idea of when it will be supported?
estefan: stuff like framebuffer objects, shaders
estefan: glsl seem supported actually
Zajec: agd5f: i see your mesa/drm for r6xx-r7xx-3d is quite stable now... 2 few-lines commits for about month
Zajec: agd5f: are you going to put r6xx-r7xx-3d drm in 2.6.31?
agd5f: Zajec: not until the 3d driver is further along
Zajec: agd5f: ok, thanks
agd5f: estefan: glsl will probably have to wait for gallium
agd5f: fbos and teh older arb shader extentions work already with kms
Lippancs: Hi folks, does r600_demo still need the r6xx-r7xx-support branch of DRM?
agd5f: Lippancs: either that or 2.6.30
Lippancs: thanks
Lippancs: is it a really bad idea to play with the demo while other X apps are running? I plan to render to off-screen buffers
agd5f: Lippancs: could run into problems if you have accel running
JarenJP: Is there a slick way to see if I'm running on the version of radeonhd that I just got from git and made and make installed?
yangman: check the log. git version is printed
JarenJP: (II) RADEONHD: version 1.2.5, built from non-git sources
JarenJP: Guess this means it didn't work?
yangman: probably
JarenJP: hmm, looks like make install put the drivers in /usr/local/lib/xorg/modules/drivers while the ones I installed with the ubuntu package re in /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers
JarenJP: Shouldn't autogen.sh have figured that out for me?
yangman: the default behaviour for autotools is to not hose your system install
yangman: which means intalling into /usr/local
yangman: you can override this, but, I suggest just telling X to look in /usr/local for modules
yangman: http://yangman.ca/xorg.conf
JarenJP: Will it just look first in local and then back off if not found there?
yangman: yes. look at the ModulePath line
JarenJP: right sorry
JarenJP: :) I started asking the question before you posted the link.
JarenJP: Looks great, I'll try this.
yangman: np
JarenJP: brb
JarenJP: Sweet
JarenJP: now it worked great!
JarenJP: Thanks man!
JarenJP: Is git://anongit.freedesktop.org/~agd5f/drm still the best place to get the experimental r6xx drm?
